OFFICIAL STATEMENT: HERITAGE PARTY’S FORMAL OPPOSITION TO ELECTION CANCELLATIONS & RESPONSE TO POLITICAL OPPORTUNISM
The Heritage Party has been actively opposing the cancellation of local elections since the earliest stages – when councils were still deciding whether to submit their requests for postponement. We were the only political party raising this issue at the time, taking direct action through formal objections, legal challenges, and public awareness campaigns. Now, after the decisions have been made and public outrage has grown, certain political figures and organizations – who remained silent when it truly mattered – are suddenly speaking out, presenting themselves as the loudest critics of election cancellations. Yet, when these councils had the chance to proceed with elections, they did nothing to challenge the process or prevent these unlawful delays.
- FACTS THE PUBLIC MUST KNOW
- Heritage Party took action when it counted – While others stayed silent, we actively opposed the election cancellations
before councils reached the deadline for submission. - Those now making the most noise ignored the issue until it became useful for publicity – No objections were raised from
their side when the decisions could have been influenced. Now that media attention is growing, they are presenting themselves as the strongest opposition – despite doing nothing to stop it. - This is not just “unfair” – it is ILLEGITIMATE – The issue isn’t merely about fairness; it is about the legal invalidity of councils
governing beyond their electoral mandate. Any governance beyond May 1, 2025, will be legally void and open to challenge. - Heritage Party has already taken formal steps, while others only talk – We have issued:
✔ A legal challenge to the UK Government, holding them accountable for their role in these cancellations.
✔ A demand to the Electoral Commission, requiring them to act on their legal obligation to enforce election law.
✔ Formal notifications to all affected councils, making them aware that their authority ends on May 1, 2025, and any decisions they make beyond that date will be unlawful. - HERITAGE PARTY’S POSITION
We will not allow political opportunists to rewrite history. While some seek publicity, we remain committed to: - Restoring local democracy and ensuring elections take place as required by law.
- Holding officials accountable for attempting to govern unlawfully beyond their term.
- Informing the public of their legal rights to challenge illegitimate councils.
The fight for democracy does not happen after the fact – it happens when it matters most.
